Barbara (Buer) Wicks passed away after a battle with cancer on March 25, 2021 at the age of 71, at her home in Hemlock Farms Lords Valley, PA with her family by her side. She was born in Bronx, NY on June 6, 1949 to Arne and Anita (Pedersen) Buer. She married the love of her life, Michael A. Wicks on May 19, 1973 and was married for 47 years. She was a resident of West Nyack and Stony Point, NY and Lords Valley, PA.
Barbara was an extraordinary woman; our family's “Wonder Woman”. She was proud of her children, whom she’d boast about to anyone that would listen and would show off her grandson, Colton. He was the light of her life and she couldn’t wait for her twin granddaughters to be born this summer.
She enjoyed entertaining her friends at their home as often as she could. Her smile would light up a room and laughter would echo throughout. Lovingly referred to as "Mom" or "Mama Wicks" by many people, most importantly her children's friends, she was always a helpful and guiding presence in their lives. Throughout her life Barbara had a love of animals and her furry friend, “Rocky” will miss playing fetch with her dearly. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
She had many accomplishments in life. One of which was teaching preschool at Crickettown Day Care. She worked at O&R Utilities in West Nyack and Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River. She retired from Rockland BOCES in 2014 after many years of dedicated service. She was a Past President of Wayne Hose Co. Ladies Auxiliary and Life Member of 47 years.
She is survived by her loving husband, Michael, son Curtis (Meagan) Wicks of Stony Point, NY; daughter Kristen (Joe) Wicks of Garnerville, NY; grandchildren, Colton and twin girls to be born this summer. She is also survived by her brother, Gary (Maggie) Buer of Cary, NC, Karl (Marguerite) Buer, Darren (Jessica) Buer, and many other nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Arne Buer in October 2015 and her mother Anita Buer February 2021. Her biggest joy in life was spending time with her family and friends.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 4-8pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc, Stony Point. A service will take place on Friday 10:30am at the funeral home followed by interment at Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spring Valley, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
