Salisbury- Charles Howard Hutchinson, 87, died Monday, March 29, 2021, at Trinity Oaks Lutheran Home. Charles was born in Richmond County, NC July 3, 1933, to the late Arthur and Maude Thomas Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Iris Mahan Hutchinson.
Charles was a graduate of Rockingham High School, Rockingham NC, 1952, Pfeiffer College Misenheimer, NC, A.B. 1957, and Duke Divinity School, Durham, NC, M. Div. 1961.
Charles served as a minister for 44 years in both the North Carolina Conference and the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening, reading and discussing scripture and bible commentary, discussing politics, and watching Duke Basketball. He was involved with the Lake Junaluska Assembly volunteering in many capacities. He also volunteered at many places around Haywood County.
Charles enjoyed eating at Joey’s Pancake House in Maggie Valley, NC, and The Coffee Cup in Clyde, NC.
Charles is survived by; a son, Jonathan Hutchinson; a sister, Martha Shaw; and brothers, Jim Hutchinson (Allene) and Joe Hutchinson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service celebrating Charles’ life is being planned for later in 2021. Memorial contributions may be made in Charles’ memory to the Dr. J.
