Our beloved father reunited with his beautiful, loving wife on April 2, 2021.
Jesus was born on October 15, 1930 in Atimonan, Quezon, Republic of the Philippines to the late Juan Marquez Rodriguez and Tomasa Devilles Rodriguez.
After graduating from Quezonian College, he enlisted in the United States Navy. At the time Filipinos were relegated to serve in minor roles. Because of his ambition to succeed and contribute meaningfully, his superior officer allowed him to enroll in clerical courses and he advanced beyond his original assignment. His naval travels were extensive and he served aboard many vessels. His duty stations began on the west coast and ended on the eastern seaboard. Upon retiring from his military career after 26 years of dutiful service as a Chief Disbursing Clerk, he worked for the City of North Charleston in the Finance Department, and eventually retired from his second career as a Budget Analyst with the Financial Management Division of Charleston Naval Station. Always wanting to be useful, Jesus worked as an Accounting Clerk at Defense Finance Accounting Service. When paid employment no longer interested him he volunteered as a Tax Aid Counselor for AARP and finally as a volunteer in the pharmacy of the Naval Health Clinic Charleston. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Filipino Community Center. Our father’s departure leaves us all with a heavy heart including his loving family in the Philippines, nieces and nephews throughout the world, and all his friends. We celebrate the positive impact and contributions that he made to improve our lives. We will fondly remember how he made us laugh after holiday meals and his insistence that he was good looking. He was gwapo.
In addition to his loving wife, Jesus was preceded in death by son, Jose’ Honra Rodriguez.
Surviving are daughter, Jocelyn H. Rodriguez of North Charleston, SC; sons, Jesus H. Rodriguez of Moncks Corner, SC, Jaime H. Rodriguez of Goose Creek, SC and Joel H. Rodriguez of Las Vegas, NV; sister in law, Mae P. Rodriguez; grandson, Jonathan Fowler and granddaughter, Angela Fowler.
