Madge Leone Grant nee Jones, 94, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2021 in Houston Texas. She was born on April 20, 1926 in Mandeville Jamaica. The daughter of Wilfred Augustus Jones and Mary Richards.
She was preceded in death by her husband Austin Forbes Grant, sisters Lileith Jones, Edna Swaby, her brother Lister Richards and her grandson Jason Grant.
She attended New Green School and Manchester High School in Mandeville Jamaica.
Madge married her childhood sweet heart Austin Forbes Grant on July 31, 1948 together they had three children Lorna Jean Grant, Karl Austin Grant and Don Leslie Wilfred Grant.
In addition to her life work as an artist Madge held jobs Managing her father’s farm (Marshall), as a devoted Homemaker, Telegraphist (Mandeville Post Office), Accounts Manager, (JLA) and Hospitality Manager. (Hotel Astra)
Madge excelled with her lifetime commitment as a creative artist in the design and creation of clothing, quilting, knitting, drawing, coloring, crocheting, baking, cooking, gardening and cultivating orchids and many varieties of exotic tropical plants.
Madge studied wood carving with renowned master carver Vincent Eudovic at The Eudovic Gallery in Castries St Lucia. She created an outstanding collection before retiring from wood carving. Madge volunteered her services for many organizations including United Way of Jamaica.
Madge relocated from her hometown of Mandeville Jamaica to live in Houston Texas in December 2002. She became actively involved at The Neighborhood Senior Center in Clear Lake where she had many friends. She was an active member of the Clear Lake Congregation of The Jehovah’s Witnesses. Madge was a very caring and devoted mother to her children and grandchildren and a devoted aunt to her nieces and nephews.
Madge was very loving and compassionate, she was always dedicated to encouraging, helping and mentoring others.
She will be greatly missed by her family (children Lorna and husband Robert, Karl and wife Heather, Don.
Grandchildren Maria and husband Farrell, Andrew, Karla, Ryan, great grand daughter Ariane, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. She will never be forgotten.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday April 17, 2021 at 8:30 am EDT in the Pyramid at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 2401 South West 64th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317, Internment will follow in the cemetery.
