June 12, 1937 – March 18, 2021
It is with heavy hearts, but we do not say good bye to our father, just, until we see you again.
Our father, Henry Luis Tillett, born in Belize, has gone home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Patricia Estela Tillett. Dad and mom were happily married in 1960. His love did not stop just because she went home with Jesus in 2009. He would visit her every day when she left this earth. They are now, together again.
Henry, also known as Tommy to some and Papasito to his grandkids, lived an eventful life and had seen good times, bad times and good times again. He was a giving man and was always ready to jump in and help. When you met him, he was sure to treat you like an old friend. His kindness also showed through with his love for his dogs, or any dog for that matter! He had an infectious smile that could always cheer you up.
In his late teens, he was so bright that the United Nations pulled him to become an Ambulance Driver. He was later known as the Top Mechanic in all of Belize! His travels brought him through Canada into the United States. While in New York, he was the Top Mechanic for Safeway Gas Stations. In Miami, he was the Chief Mechanic for the Salvation Army. He worked in many types of professions but his heart was as the Round Rock District Chief of Custodial Services at Spicewood Elementary for many years. There were many stories of ambulance driving, boating, and always an amusing tale or two. All the while, there was never a day for him without a Coke in his hand!
He loved his family and is survived by his 5 children; Ingrid, Luis, George, Patricia, and Adrian along with their spouses; Leszek and Gigi, and his 7 grandkids; Kristina, Filip, Kirsten, Merin, Luke, Preston, and Avery. He is also survived by his siblings Steve, Howard, Wayne, and Maureen, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Peachie.
Henry spent the last 16 months of his life doing what he loved to do “fishing.” Need we say more? Our father fished from the time he arose at 4AM to sometimes late hours of the night. He caught many fish and even found the time to rename Tampa Bay to Tampa’s Catfish Bay. Belize and his family were always in the center of his heart.
There were many days he spent just recanting the stories to us of his childhood days at 1185 Pickstock Street. Memories he would conjure up along with all the fish he would catch back then. Spending time with dad was interesting and it was always a new adventure with a twist. You never knew where the next story would take you. One thing he would always say is, “This house is much better than the other one. It puts me in the mind of Belize.”
Many of you know that he could never sit still and just had to continually do things his way. We can say prior to him leaving us, his last words to his nurse were, “I have to get better quick. I need to get back to fishing.”
Henry Luis Tillett loved his family and friends but answered the calling of the Lord and went home to be with God and his beloved wife.
Until we see you both again, we miss you and we love you.
