Dr. Henry Crommelin, Jr. passed away April 4, 2021. He was born August 8, 1935 in Annapolis, Maryland to Vice Admiral Henry Crommelin and Sally Huntress Crommelin. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mary Morn Sellers Crommelin, granddaughter Sally Wade Crommelin, parents and sister, Diane Crommelin Kershaw. He is survived by his children William David Sellers Crommelin (Elizabeth), Henry Claiborne Crommelin (Jane Huston), Elizabeth Forsyth Crommelin Adams (Seth) and Charles Laurence de Bernire Crommelin III (Katie); his thirteen grandchildren: William David Sellers Crommelin, Jr, Carolyn Cason Crommelin, Quentin Claiborne Crommelin, Elizabeth Anne Wilkinson Crommelin, Gunter Morn Crommelin, Henry Claiborne Crommelin, Jr, William Huston Crommelin, Mary Virginia Adams, Arthur Richmond Forsyth Adams, Harriet Huntress Crommelin Adams, Charles Laurence de Bernire Crommelin IV, Richard Gunter Crommelin IV, Henry Tucker Crommelin; sisters Susie Crommelin Dell (Paul) and Harriet Huntress Crommelin; sister-in-law Forsyth Sellers Donald and wife Margaret Bagby Ahearn. Henry graduated from Andover in 1953 and Dartmouth College in 1957. After college he entered Naval OCS where he was sworn in by his father, Rear Admiral Henry Crommelin, commander of Newport Naval Base. He spent four years as a line officer before attending Medical College of Alabama (now UAB). Upon completion of medical school, he returned to active duty and served three more years as a medical officer before resigning his commission in 1969 as a LT Commander. He practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology with Allen Lowman and joined Birmingham OBGYN in 1997 where he practiced until his retirement. Henry loved spending time with his family whether in Birmingham, at Grandfather Mountain or on the ski slopes where he last skied at age 80! His knowledge of history and ability to recount details of his life made for fantastic dinner conversations. Henry was a faithful member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church as well as Rotary Club of Birmingham, Monday Morning Quarterback Club, The Redstone Club, Beaux Arts Krewe and the Country Club of Birmingham where he rarely missed his lunch group, Tabs. The Family would like to thank Brenda Matthews and Melanie Coleman Foster for their wonderful care and devotion to Henry. They would also like to thank Choice Home Care for their care and service. A private family service will be held Friday, April 9, 2021 and live streaming of the service will begin at 11:00 AM at https://youtu.be/2lVetiGqj98 on Friday with graveside immediately following.
