Antoinette (“Toni”) F. Chapman, 87, quietly passed away in her home on April 4, 2021, going to be with our risen Lord on Easter Sunday. Services will be held on Monday, April 12th at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church. Rosary will begin at 9:45 a.m., followed by visitation, funeral mass at 11:00 a.m., and then burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Please observe masking and social distancing protocols. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. John Francis Regis Catholic Grade School/Academy.
Toni was born of George W. Colwell, Jr. and Catherine Colwell on February 7, 1934, in Kansas City, Missouri. Her siblings were George W. III (Helen) Colwell, Catherine (“Lorie”) Herrick, Tom (Kitty) Colwell, and Sister Loretto Marie Colwell.
Toni lived a full and active life of service. At St. Regis she served as a teachers’ aid, playground supervisor, and volunteer on many school and neighborhood projects. She played the organ as an accompanist at Mass, was employed as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital and the Veterans’ Hospital, and was a first responder at the scene of the terrible 1957 Ruskin Heights tornado. Toni was a dedicated wife and mother who fiercely loved and cared for her immediate and extended family members. She was strong in faith and was a member of Our Lady of Fatima’s Blue Army; was a member of the Dames of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem; and supported many charitable organizations.
On May 24, 1958, she married Donald Lee Chapman (“Don”) in the Church of St. Therese Little Flower in Kansas City, Missouri. Don preceded her to be with our Lord on August 8, 2020. Don was the first to credit his partner in life, Toni, with making his/their success possible with all that she did. Their union was blessed with three children: Donald M. (Denise) Chapman, David L. (Mary) Chapman, and Douglas A. (Katherine) Chapman. Douglas and Katherine as well as Donald M. Chapman, Jr. also preceded Toni in going to our Lord. Toni and Don were also blessed with two surviving grandchildren, Mark (“Mac”) A. Chapman and Caleb L. Chapman who are both currently serving in the U.S. Army.
Toni led a life well lived and will be greatly missed.
