Born April 20th, 1943 in Marion, Kentucky. Don was the son of the late Herman Shelby York and Iva Nell York (Nesbitt). He had two siblings, Shelby Jean Croft (Truman) the late Ronald York (Pat) and two step siblings, Tommy Yandell (Linda) and Ricky Yandell (Cindy). After graduating from Crittenden County High School, he moved to Birmingham, Alabama where he married Jacqueline York (Faubion) in 1968. Soon after, he obtained his Doctorate of Pharmacy from Samford University (1969). He and Jacqueline had two daughters, Emily (Brian) Krebs and Meredith (Brad) Woods. Don accepted a position with Super X Pharmacies (CVS) in 1971 and remained with the company throughout his professional career. Outside of his love for medicine, Don was an ardent tennis player, avid gardener and bore a keen eye for interior design. He enjoyed sharing his passions with his daughters, especially tennis. As well as forged many of his life-long friendships on the tennis court. After accepting a promotion in 1991, Don moved to Springfield, IL. He soon established an active role in the local tennis scene where he met the love of his life. Don and Kathy (Beltrami) took their matrimonial vows at their home on January 31st, 1998, in an intimate ceremony surrounded by their children. Along with his vows to Kathy, he vowed to love Philip (Leigh Ann) Leslie (Brad) and Stephen as his own. Don and his family eventually made Nashville their home and he retired from his lifelong career with the now CVS drugs. Throughout the years, Don would enjoy taking his family back to his hometown of Marion, Kentucky where he had many fond memories. His life was full when he was diagnosed with Parkinsons in 2004 at the age of 60. His mind and body gradually faded over time as the disease progressed, but his legacy remains.
In addition to the people listed above. Don is survived by his nine grandchildren whom he adored and was so proud of; Grayson Elizabeth Krebs, Jack Elliott Krebs, Tuck Michael Woods, Bode Michael Woods, Augustus David Hannewald, Rose Elizabeth Bassett, Grace Amelia Bodie, Henry Louis Bodie and Rowan Douglas Bassett.. A life-long friend and cousin; Nancy Landreth as well as many other friends and family. Don is also preceded in death by his step-mother, Amy Etta York (Yandell).
Memorials may be made in his honor to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson St., Nashville,TN 37203; or to The Parkinsons Foundation, parkinson.org. Arrangements have been entrusted to Marshall, Donnelly Combs Funeral Home, 201 25th Avenue North. Visitation will be held at location above on April 10th, 2021 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm, with a service following at 1:00pm.
