Edward Martino, 96, of East Stroudsburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 12, 2021 at the Monroe County Hospice House. He was the loving companion of Doreen C. Rodriguez with whom he shared 37 happy years.
Born December 7th, 1924, he was the son of the late Joseph Martino and Matilda Mercado of New York, NY.
Ed proudly and bravely served his country as a machine gunner for the Marines in WWII in the Battle of Peleliu and Guadalcanal. He suffered two injuries for which he received two purple hearts and was honorably discharged on November 15, 1945.
Ed went on to work for the United States Postal Service from which he retired in the early 1990’s. He was also skilled with optometry and TV repair. He enjoyed the outdoors - especially camping and fishing. Ed was a devoted partner, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend to many. Ed was very involved in his community at Monroe Lakes Estates and was fondly referred to as “Old Man Ed”.
Ed was witty, funny, and liked to invoke emotion with his satirical remarks. He loved to read and never needed reading glasses (even at the ripe old age of 96). He had a generous heart and gave donations to many charities. Ed was eager to help anyone he could.
His family, friends, and loved ones will miss him dearly but take solace in his reunion with his partner, Doreen, and three children, Robert, Ricky, and Sandra.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Dawn Gonzalez and her husband, Papo, of Henryville, Christine Walker of Maryland, Andrea Monaco and her husband of New Jersey; grandchildren Kasey M. Gonzalez, Robert E. Gonzalez and his wife, Renee, Herminio Gonzalez III, Tyler J. Gonzalez and his wife, Ksenia, Emily Walker, Matthew Walker, Meagan Rodriguez, Christopher Martino, Victoria Monaco-Lopez, and many great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
