He was a veteran of the Coast Guard. Joe retired after 36 years of service at the United States Army Corps of Engineers as a Supervisory Civil Hydraulic Engineer. He was a Senior Adviser at Taylor Engineering, Inc. He was an engineer of the year, United States Army Corps of Engineers. Also, he was a fourth degree, Worthy Sir Knight, past officer and Knight of the year at the Knights of Columbus. For 18 years Joe and John Hashtak volunteered evening math tutors at Mandarin High School. He also taught math at the Community School. He was a great mentor to anybody in his professional and personal life. He was greatly loved by all that knew him.
He was predeceased by his wife, Linda Loeffler Gurulé, father, Eloy E. Gurulé, mother, Mary Constancia Gurulé, and sister, Sandra Jean Carroll. Joe is survived by his daughter, Laura Gurulé Readmond, and son-in-law, Thomas Matthew Readmond, Jacksonville, Florida.
