Dante was born September 25, 1939, in Ossining, NY, son of the late Charles J. Cretara and Julia Cretara (DiPillo) and brother of Charles (Butch) Cretara Jr. (Judy).
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Cretara (Winter), his three children; Debra Bartzick (Richard) of Cortlandt Manor, NY, Dante Cretara Jr. (Jen) of Croton-on-Hudson, NY and Darla Bosco (Frank) of Buchanan, NY.
Dante, lovingly known as Gramps, is also survived by his five cherished grandchildren; Michael Settepani (Tara), Alicia Lenhart (Mike), Heather DiDomizio (Nick), Robert Fahey (Danielle), Jake Cretara, and soon to be great-granddaughter Lenhart.
Earlier in life, Dante proudly served his country and was Honorably Discharged from the Marine Corps in 1959. Dante went on to enjoy a long and successful career as a mainframe computer programmer at IBM, retiring after over 30 years of service. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting, scuba diving (Certified with the YMCA National Scuba Program) and flying small aircraft. Among his other achievements, Dante was a Founding Member of the Department of Homeland Security and received a service award for 5 years of dedicated service with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited for visitation and a Funeral Service in celebration of Dante’s Life at the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand St., Croton-on-Hudson, NY on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.
