Clifton Ray Naylor Sr., age 92, of The Woodlands, Texas passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. Clifton was born January 15, 1929 in Meridian, Mississippi. He graduated from Meridian Senior High School in 1947, and was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1952. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology in 1955. He spent the next 50 years as a geologist--initially in New Orleans, LA, but mainly in Lafayette, LA, and finally in Houston, Texas. He was an active member of the Lafayette Petroleum Club for many years and had many close friends there. He always had a ready smile, and he had a gentle spirit until the very end. He passed away quietly and peacefully with his family by his side.
He was married to Ann Naylor for 54 years, until her passing in 2013. They shared many interests including a love for traveling, dancing, playing bridge, and camping; and especially for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Their 5 children are: Clifton Ray Naylor, Jr. (Rosella Gonzales), Carey Naylor Sullivan (Tom Sullivan), Bret Anthony Naylor (fiancé Christina Hidalgo), Jodi Naylor Trotter (Neil Trotter), and Lori Naylor Goedeking (Dave Goedeking). Their numerous grandchildren are Isaac and Anthony Bachicha; Shane, Brad, and Laurel Sullivan; Nathan and Curtis Hidalgo; Jessica, Candice (JW Kirk), and Jacob Trotter; and Emily and Sam Goedeking; and there are also two great-grandchildren, Christian and Harper Mae. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as cousins, friends, neighbors, and wonderful and kind caregivers who helped out during his last few years at home. Clif loved to hunt and fish, he was an avid pool player and golfer for around 70 years, and he enjoyed playing poker, Yahtzee, Uno, and other card games with his kids, grandkids, and caregivers. He was a joy to be around, even when dementia was robbing him of so many of his favorite things.
Clif was proceeded in death by his wife, Ann; parents Eugene F., Sr. and Hazel Hyde Naylor; brothers and sisters: Eugene F. Naylor, Jr. (Dot), Bama Claire Hohnstreiter (Johnny), Tilden P. Naylor (Margaret), Hazel Barrett (Earl) and Helen Naylor, who died as a child.
