Jean Elizabeth Vantreese McKenzie was born in Jackson, Tennessee on July 25, 1936 to the late Arliss Vantreese and the late Ruby Vantreese(later Wood), she departed to her heavenly home April 15, 2021.
After graduating from Jackson High School, Jean was married to Cleatus McKenzie, Sr., whom she lovingly followed in life to numerous states, as he was transferred in retail management.
Once settled in Memphis, Tn., she enjoyed many years working for Holiday Inn, Inc. and then Kennington Pointe Assisted Living, eventually returning to Jackson with Mac to care for her aging mother.
Always the perfect example of the Proverbs 31 woman, honoring God with not only the daily care of her family and home, but playing the piano at various churches, including the Bill Baxter Class broadcast on the radio in Jackson, and teaching children’s Sunday School.
Jean is survived by her blessed children-daughter Debbie Simcox(Mike) and son Randy McKenzie(CarolAnn); her beloved grandsons-Chad Simcox(Cindy), Brandon Simcox(Jen), Randy McKenzie and Justin McKenzie(Anna Grace). Her family also includes her precious great grandchildren-Michael and Andrew Simcox, Mila McKenzie and the much anticipated arrival of Caroline Simcox.
She is survived by her loving sister, Virginia Ann Morris and stepbrothers Robert Wood, Jr. and Michael Wood. Her much loved family also includes sister in law, Doris McKenzie.
Jean is survived by beloved nieces and nephews as well as many cousins, including Cindy Deaton, who offered great support and love, not only to her, but to Jean’s family as well.
She leaves wonderful neighbors, Bennie and John, who watched after and cared for her as one of their own, and for that, her family is eternally grateful.
Services will be held Wednesday, April 21st , 1:30 p.m. at the Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery at Parkers Crossroad, where she will join her loving husband.
