Born and raised on a farm in the town of Lyme, Ed graduated Old Lyme High School in 1964. He went into excavation after high school, starting Firgelewski Construction with his brother William.
Ed's passion was pulling draft horses, winning many ribbons at fairs all over New England. He was a long time member of the Eastern Draft Horse Association. After no longer being able to pull horses he became the announcer for the horse pulls at Hamburg fair, continuing to do what he loves.
Ed was also a long time member of the Lyme Fire Company, joining the fire company at the age of 16; he served as fire chief from 1973-1981. He was also a founding board member of the Lyme Ambulance Association, devoting a large part of his life to helping his community.
Ed is survived by his brother William, his daughter Michelle Adametz, her husband Jermey, and their three children Cadence, Emily, and Jackson of Killingworth. Also survived by his nephews William and Josh and Nieces Ruth, Becky, and Alison
