Ronald William Rorah, 77, a lifetime resident of Roseville, MI, a husband for 53 years, a supportive father, a "really something" grandpa and a friend to all, was embraced by the Lord's Arms on Saturday, April 17, 2021 after a brief illness in the hospital.
Ron enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1964. Ron served two hardship tours and volunteered to go to Vietnam (1966-67). Later in life he was diagnosed with cancer as a result of having been exposed to the defoliant called Agent Orange that was used heavily during the Vietnam War. He was a cancer survivor for almost 5 years. The treatment he received to keep the cancer in remission did adversely affect his muscles, strength, and his ability to walk.
Not only had Ron been a soldier for America, but he was a Soldier for the Lord. Aside from being an avid reader of all subjects, his favorite Book was God's Word. He was concerned about the spiritual condition of his family and friends. One of Ron's favorite passages was John 3:16-17.
His children and grandson enjoyed the times he spent with them traveling, working on hobbies, and attending their sports and social activities.
Ron always loved history and in the early 80's became interested in living history. Over the years, Ron became a member in several reenacting groups here in southeast Michigan. Ron was active in reenacting into the 2010's.
As a teen, Ron loved trains and had been a model railroader. He never lost interest in trains; however, in the late 70's, Ron became an avid toy soldier collector. It was this hobby that Ron enjoyed the most. Throughout the 80's and 90's, Ron had been a member of the Southeast Michigan Toy Soldier Collectors Society which met monthly at the headquarters building in Historic Fort Wayne in Detroit.
Aside from toy soldiers and miniatures, Ron also loved the circus. Ron (and family) never missed an opportunity to see the circus whenever it came to town. Ron took such an interest in all things related to the circus that he put his train and miniatures collecting skills to use and built his own 54mm (1/32) scale circus, complete with railroad transport cars, figures, animal acts, scratch-built wagons and menageries. If Ron could not find the circus item that he needed he would just make it.
Ron is survived by his spouse: Penny (Miller) Rorah; his son; Shawn; his daughter Beth; his grandson Bryscen; his many nieces and nephews and his extended family.
Ron was pre-deceased by his parents: "Bill" and "Lou" Rorah; his siblings: Helen Windorf, Alice Blauser and Gene Rorah; several nieces and nephews.
Donations may be made in Honor of Ron to: Van Dyke Baptist Church, 24620 Cunningham, Warren, MI.
Visitation will be Monday, June 21, 2021 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm with funeral service at 6:30pm at Kaul Funeral Home, 27830 Gratiot Avenue, Roseville, Michigan.
