Carmelita Singh Shine was born in Oroville, California on January 27, 1927 to Mamel and Genevieve Singh. She is survived by her youngest son, Robert Shine, grandchildren Kristofer Shine, Jessica Shine, and Michelle Shine Morgan; great-grandchildren Madilynn, Delylah, and Delaney. Carmelita was proceeded in death by her husband Gurbashen, and her sons Michael and Ralph.
Gurbashen and Carmelita started their family in Holtville, California, moved to Yuba City and settled in Chico, California where they raised 3 sons and enjoyed life together. Carmelita worked at Pacific Bell Telephone Company for 37 years until retiring in 1981. She spent countless hours volunteering with the Gleaners, as PTA president in the Tierra Buena School system, supporting her sons as a Cub and Scout leader, with little league, as a VFW auxiliary member, and with other various high school sports. Upon retiring, Carmelita moved to Huntington Beach and eventually Costa Mesa, California where she volunteered with the Telephone Pioneers.
One of Carmelita’s joys was traveling to visit her family, including Australia, Mexico, New York City, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oregon and much of California. One of her legacies will be trips with her grandkids to adventure in these and other places.
Most recently, she was an active member of the Water Babes, Silver Sneakers, and St Joachim Catholic Church. Carmelita was well loved by her family and friends, and she will be missed greatly. She was a matriarch who was loving, generous, and had a great sense of humor.
