Osterville - Dr. Roger N. Chabra of Osterville passed away peacefully on April 24th at the age of 84.
Roger was born to the late Kaura Ram Chhabra and Janki Devi Chhabra on January 5th, 1937 in Dera Ghazi Khan, India. During the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947, Roger, his parents and sister, fled Dera Ghazi Khan and settled in Delhi.
After graduating from medical school in India, Roger completed his first residency in England where he lived from 1962-1970. In 1970 Roger, his wife and son relocated to the United States where he completed his second residency in Boston before moving to Cape Cod and establishing a successful private practice in general surgery. Shortly after his retirement from general surgery, Roger opened an opioid treatment clinic which he ran until late 2020.
Roger was a well-respected physician and will be remembered fondly for his compassionate approach toward his patients. He was also a licensed private pilot in his younger years and enjoyed flying the Cape Cod to Nantucket route with his family. Roger also traveled extensively with his wife and was an accomplished artist.
Roger is survived by his wife of 56 years, Riitta Chabra, his two children, Roy Chabra and his wife Bonnie Chabra of Marshfield, MA and Meera Chabra Gerlach and her husband David Gerlach of Metuchen, NJ. He is also survived by 6 beloved grandchildren and a niece and nephew.
