BLACKSTONE, Marie (Terrye). Terrye Blackstone of East Hartford, wife of the late Richard H. Blackstone, passed away at her home on April 24, 2021. Born in Hartford, CT on December 19, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Carmine and Letitia (Adamo) Cermola. Terrye was a resident of East Hartford for most of her adult life and was active until recently in the East Hartford Woman’s Club and the East Hartford Commission on Culture and Fine Arts, which she joined in 1974, as well as many other civic organizations. Terrye greatly enjoyed being East Hartford’s first lady during Richard’s tenure as Mayor, from 1970 through 1980. She also treasured her family, being the center of attention and providing direction at many family functions. Terrye will be remembered and cherished by her family and friends as a very caring and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by her children, Beverly Boyle and her husband Jim, Gregg Blackstone, and Pamela Parkinson and her husband Donald. She was a loving, devoted, and proud grandmother and great grandmother, who was affectionately called Mimi. She leaves her beloved grandchildren, Allyson Boyle Tornatore and her husband Albert, Christian Boyle, Janna Blackstone, Kelsey Blackstone, Alycia Parkinson Hazard and her husband Adam, Matthew Parkinson and his wife Andrea, and Adam Parkinson; and also, her great grandchildren Aidan and Vivien Boyle, Weston and Reese Hazard; AJ Parkinson, and AJ , Amanda and Alexa Tornatore. She also leaves sisters Ann Schmidt of Milwaukee and Jean Galiniski of Wethersfield, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Luke, Dominic, Joseph, and Ernest Cermola, and sisters Mary Smallbeck and Rose Lynch. The family wishes to thank Trinity Healthcare at Home and the staff at Right at Home, whose compassionate, gentle care fulfilled Terrye’s wishes to live in the home she loved for the past two years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Patrick St. Anthony Church in Hartford, Monday, May 3 at 10:30 AM, immediately followed by a private burial. A public memorial may be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the East Hartford Woman’s Club Scholarship Fund, PO Box 380401 East Hartford, CT 06138-0401.
