Gilbert will be forever loved by his wife of 60 years Pauline, children Rory (Colleen), Kelly (Wade Schell), and Scott (Maria Strause), grandchildren Crystal and Jamie, great granddaughter McKenna, as well as other relatives and friends. He will be dearly missed.
Gilbert worked for N.A.R/CN Rail for 38 years in Smith, Peace River, and Edmonton. After a short retirement from CN, Gilbert retuned to work for the Edmonton Catholic School Board as a teacher’s assistant working with disabled children. After he finally decided to fully retire it was not many years later that he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. He continued to enjoy life to the best of his ability.
Gilbert was a very kind and caring man. We are sure many of you have great memories of Gilbert at the Smith train station, curling, ball diamonds, camping, fishing, hunting, Junior Forest Wardens, playing cards, and later in life, golf. He was also very talented in cross stitching and even took courses how to frame his masterpieces. He loved to tease and loved to laugh!
Gilbert spent his final years at Jasper Place Lodge in Edmonton. The family would like to thank the staff for their care and compassion. We will be forever grateful.
If anyone so desires, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
