Born in Diman, Lebanon on December 25, 1940, Farid immigrated to Canada with his family in May of 1961. He arrived in Halifax as a young man and made a new life here. He worked numerous jobs in his career including as a taxi driver and took great pride in the fact that he knew every street in Halifax and could navigate to any town in the Maritimes. He later found his niche as a painter and was a great one! He was a very talented handyman and could fix almost anything. He would often spend hours in his garage working on projects for himself, friends and family. He especially loved tending to his garden and sharing the fruits of his labour with others. One of Fred’s passions was camping of which he enjoyed with many family members and friends over the years. Always keeping a watchful eye over his beloved campfire. He continued as an avid camper right up until last summer! He was of course a huge Toronto Maple Leaf fan, enjoying several trips to watch a live game. When he wasn’t traveling to a game, he enjoyed watching at home with family and friends. He enjoyed being a regular at his grandson’s hockey games. He was a longstanding honorary member of the Diman Association of Canada. He was a loyal participant and supporter at many DAC events and functions. His favorite of which, DAC’s infamous Cape Breton trips, where he was affectionately known as the “Sherriff”. Fred was a “rock” to many of his friends and family during his lifetime. He was kind, caring, selfless and humble. Always quick to lend a hand to anyone in need. His Family was Everything to him and he was the glue that kept his family together. His grandchildren, Marcus, Mariah, Freddie and Stefanie were the joys of his life. His current favorite phrase was “Thank God for Grandchildren”. Fred had a loving relationship with all of his family including his sisters, brother, nieces and nephews and their children. He had many friends in all walks of life. He will be deeply missed and Always in Our Hearts.
Due to Covid Restrictions, the funeral mass will be a private ceremony. A memorial mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the IWK Hospital or Our Lady of Lebanon Church.
The family wishes to thank the staff in emergency and on the 7th floor at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital.
This is not goodbye but “See You Soon” as he always said.
May He Rest In Peace
