Charlice was born on the 16th of August 1928, in Cuero, Texas. She always said she was blessed to be raised by loving parents, Arthur and Violet Thamm.
Charlice graduated from Cuero High School and was active at First United Methodist Church of Cuero. She attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville, and met her future husband and love of her life, Homer Charles Finck, at the Wesley Foundation. Homer had recently returned from military service in World War II.
After Texas A&I, Charlice taught grades one through six in a one-room schoolhouse in Clinton, Texas. Homer and Charlice were married on the 10th of September 1949. They lived in many places including Morgan City, Louisiana, Midland, Texas, New Orleans, Brownsville, Corpus Christi, and Tyler, for Homer’s geophysics work for Shell Oil Company. They spent most of their lives in Houston where they raised two daughters. Charlice and Homer cherished happy times together at the family’s country place near Mission Valley, Texas.
She loved her family and was devoted to caring for them. She had many talents, one being music. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang solos at Westbury United Methodist Church of Houston, as well as weddings and funerals. Her husband and she were long-time members of the church choir and she was actively involved in women’s groups and church activities. Charlice created magnificent quilts and sewed all of her daughters’ clothes when they were young. Her family enjoyed her delicious cooking and she treated friends and new neighbors with homemade baked goods. Her husband was proud of everything she did.
Charlice loved the Lord and was faithful with her Bible studies and daily devotions. She has inspired her family with her faith in God, her love for others, and service to her friends. She had a servant’s heart and was generous with her time helping her family and friends. Charlice's sons-in-law loved her, which is a testament to her sweet nature. She was not judgmental or critical of others and was an encourager to many.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her twin brother, Charles Franklin Thamm. She is survived by her daughters, Meredith Finck Cocke and her husband Fielding, and Barbara Finck Hecker and her husband John; grandchildren, Alexander Cocke, Meredith Hecker Garreau and her husband Scott and Joseph Hecker; and many relatives.
We wish to thank her devoted caregivers Lee Hall, Mishel Green, Rita Sambola, Clara Gonzales, and Mary Walker and family for years of loving service.
