Jody was born the daughter of Joseph and Pauline (Skinner) McPhail on January 21, 1945 in Ashland, Kansas where she spent her early childhood. Later, Jody and her family moved to Rangely, Colorado where she attended school and graduated in 1963.
Following high school, Jody furthered her education where she studied cosmetology and while attending cosmetology school, Jody met the love of her life, Michael Lyle Maxson. After a short, seven-month courtship, Mike proposed to Jody and were subsequently married September 17, 1966, in Rangely. Following their marriage, Mike and Jody relocated to Craig and had three sons; Devon, Aaron, and Jason. Mike and Jody celebrated 43 wonderful years of marriage together before Mike’s passing on April 6, 2010.
After receiving her cosmetology license in 1967, Jody’s dream of opening a beauty salon come to fruition. Her successful business; “Pretty Foxy Beauty Bar” became a staple of the Craig Community serving clients for over 30 years which most had become lifelong friends. When Jody’s grandchildren were born she decided to retire to focus on family and spend time with them.
In her spare time, Jody enjoyed conversing with friends, gardening, taking her dogs for walks, doing crossword puzzles, and watching Denver Broncos football. Above all, Jody was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and caring friend.
Jody is survived by two sons, Aaron Maxson of Fisherville, KY and Jason (Nikkole) Maxson of Savery, WY. She also has two brothers and one sister; Jim (Joyce) McPhail of Page, AZ; Tony (Vicki) McPhail of Grand Junction, CO; and Traci (Dale) Files of Rangely CO. Jody is further survived by three grandchildren: Caleb, Seth and Jori Maxson; one brother-in-law, Richard “Dick” Maxson of Craig and her beloved dog Jake. She also has numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Jody’s memory to the Moffat County Humane Society. A celebration of life for Jody will be held at a later date.
