Annabell Hughes (nee Whobrey) of Farmington, MO. formerly of St. Louis, MO passed away on Sunday April 25, 2021. She was born in Bloomsdale, MO on May 5, 1931 to the late Thomas and Mary Whobrey; Beloved wife of the late Ivan G. Hughes; loving mother of Ivan T. "Butch" Hughes; loving grandmother of Kristin (David) Brown; dear great grandmother Kadyn Cole, Gavin Brown and Sophia Brown; dear sister of the late James (Edith) Hendricks, Clarence (Edith) Hendricks, Toby (Dean) Hendricks, Arley (Lucy) Whobrey, John (Millie) Whobrey, Art (Doris) Whobrey and Nita (Kenny) Tourville. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and even some great great nieces and nephews.
Above all she loved animals, her cats and dogs were treated like children. Over the years, her and my grandfather traveled extensively. She loved the Southwest and the Indian culture. Her mother was Cherokee Indian, and she collected indian pieces from all over the country. They lived in California where she was involved in women's clubs, bowling leagues, snow skiing, ice skating and golfing. She was really fancy, she loved to dress up and I can imagine that LA in the 40's and 50's was the place to be. After her son was born they moved back to the Saint Louis, MO area. She then started her own ceramic shop in Imperial and used to teach painting classes. There was never a birthday where she did not bake an extravagant cake, she was so talented. She was the best grandmother. Every Birthday and holiday was amazing because of her. She loved her great grandchildren more than anything, she was always there for everyone. She had multiple cats and I can count at least 6 schnauzers that I can remember. She always donated to St. Judes, and I know that is where she would want any memorial donations to go. She was the kindest, best person in the world.
