On Tuesday, April 27, Anna Belle Garst Elbel, went to be with her beloved family in Heaven. She passed peacefully in the care of her longtime friends and caregivers at Hope’s Residence, where she was loved and cared for with dignity for over 10 years. Ms. Elbel, fondly known as Aunt Ann or Anabel to her family and Miss Ann to the staff and residents at Hope’s Residence, was born, raised, and lived all 91 years of her life in San Antonio. Born on January 18, 1930, she spent much of her youth as the doting older sister to her little brother, George. She went on to later graduate from Brackenridge High School in 1948. She worked in the insurance industry in San Antonio, and eventually married Harry Elbel, Sr., who owned Elbel Radiator Shop and was a former, local race car driver. She and her husband lived for many years in Leon Valley on Forest Court. Ms. Elbel was a member of her high school reunion committee, which she enjoyed very much. She was an avid pet lover, and was particularly fond of her Pomeranians and Dachshunds, as well as her beloved parrot, Pete.
Ms. Elbel is preceded in death by her father, George Garst, Sr.; mother, Cecilia Rotter Stabenow; husband, Harry Elbel, Sr.; sister, Lillian Mary Brandt; brother, George Garst, Jr.; and her sister-in-law, Rose Garst. She is survived by her nephew Garry Garst (Elise); nephew George Garst, III (Carol); niece Cindy Garst; niece Christy Lockard (Kelly); 7 great nieces and nephews; 11 great-great nieces and nephews; as well as her loving caregivers and fellow residents at Hope’s Residence.
A visitation will be held at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021, followed by a burial at the same location at 11:00 a.m. Sunset Memorial Park is located at 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218.
