Duane Cornelius Huskin, known as Slim by many, passed away Sunday April 25,2021. He was born May 25, 1934 in Filbert, Pennsylvania to Margaret Burk Huskin and Ray Kelly Huskin, the youngest of 11 children all of whom preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Patricia Allen Huskin, and his first wife, Lola Harris Beaver, the mother of his children.
Duane is survived by six children, Shelly Roush (Otis) of Hawkins, Texas, Michael Huskin of Vonore, Tennessee, Phillip Huskin (Regena), Gregory Huskin (Kristen), Tammy Bland (Tommy), all of Tampa, Florida, and Steven Huskin (Amy) of Madison Heights, Virginia; step-children, Michael Campbell (Chere) of Lakeland, Florida and Roberta Campbell of Thonotosassa, Florida; 17 grandchildren; 24 great- grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, close friends; and one special friend, Michael McKinney of Lynchburg, Virginia.
Duane worked in the coal mines in West Virginia for 7 years before moving to Florida with five small children and the hope of a better life. In Tampa he worked as a maintenance technician for Thatcher Glass for twenty years and also operated two gas stations at different times during those years. He then moved to Warner Robins, Ga. to serve as cold end maintenance manager at Midland Glass for five years. Simplimatic Engineering Company brought he and Pat to Va. where he served as a Service Technician and retired as Service Manager after 18 years. After retirement, he and Pat owned Custom Design Vertical Binds and later Seven Hills Service and Installation.
Travel was a constant joy of Duane and Pat and they were Members of the Christian Motorcycle Association for many years. The two of them traveled the U.S. on their motorcycle and had tales to share of their adventures. He has seen all 50 states and many countries. Duane also co-owned and operated a 150 Cessna airplane. He was a lover of airplanes, motorcycles, vintage cars, and Old Milwaukee for many years.
A graveside service will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 in Sunset Memory Gardens,Thonotosassa, Florida.
