Stephen Albert Nicolato, age 71, of Allen Park, Michigan was called Home into the arms of his loving Savior on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 after a short battle with covid. Stephen was born on March 15, 1950 in Frostburg, Maryland to the late Adolph and Antoinette (Chucci) Nicolato.
He was survived by his three younger siblings and best friends, Nancy (the late Benny) Valvona, Albert (Laura) Nicolato, and Dr Patricia Nicolato. Also survived by Patricia Marie Nicolato and their children Karen (Bryon) Smith, Robert (Crystal) Nicolato, Alex (Carla) Nicolato, and Valerie Nicolato. Stephen had much affection for all of his children and grandchildren of which there are seven: Ethan, Reagan, Alexa, Joy, Solace, Valentina, and Robert
Stephen was a beautifully tender-hearted man that loved people and all living things. As a child he found and cared for “pets” of all different kinds, including a trapped skunk he attempted to set free—not without consequences. He had a propensity for electronics and fixing anything that was broken. As a young man he joined the US Navy where he honed his mechanical skills as a submariner and traveled the world, scuba diving in many beautiful coasts. After his service in the US Navy, he used his skills to work as a laser technician fixing industrial lasers mostly in the automotive industry.
The delight of Stephen’s latter years was his grandchildren. His Sundays were spent with his Michigan grandchildren, known to them as Pappa Steve, who fixed all their broken toys and enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the evening, visiting with his son Robert until the sun set.
Stephen will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors. The message that God impressed on Stephen’s heart weeks before his illness, was the Grace of God “that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all,” (Romans 8:32). We take this time to celebrate with him his victory over death, the Life that he lived, and the Life he now lives with his risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 2:4-7
But God, being rich in mercy,
because of His great love with which He loved us,
even when we were dead in our transgressions,
made us alive together with Christ
(by grace you have been saved),
and raised us up with Him,
and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
so that in the ages to come
He might show the surpassing riches of His grace
in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
A strolling visitation (25 people at a time) for Stephen will be held Friday, May 7, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Harry J Will Funeral Homes, 37000 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. A burial will occur at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park, 35667 Eight Mile Rd, Livonia, Michigan 48152.
