Nanette Gladin McPherson, 88, of Peachtree City, GA (formally from Woodstock, GA) passed away April 27, 2021. Nanette was born in Atlanta on November 13, 1932 to the late Nannie C and Chandler B Gladin. She attended the University of Georgia where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics.
Her greatest gift is her profound life-long expression of Christ’s Gospel from Matthew 23 : “He who is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Her family, community and her church were where she lived out Christ’s commandment for humility and service. We honor her as the servant leader of a family of now 33 with their own legacy of ministries, talents, and careers.
After graduating college, Nanette began teaching Home Economics in Moultrie, GA where she met her husband of 63 years, Don. His 35-year business management career with Procter & Gamble and his 30-year Air National Guard duty were both direct results of her willingness to wholly invest herself to the needs and aspirations of her family. Her four sons began arriving when she was just 23 years old and she soon faced the prospect of moving from her life-long home in Atlanta to the ‘cold’ of Cincinnati, OH. She raised her four sons in Cincinnati and then in retirement she and Don returned to Woodstock, GA in 1989. She loved the Lord and was a long-time member of Woodstock First Baptist Church with her husband. They were both active in the Senior Group and enjoyed participating in many activities such as the Senior Choir during their 25+ years of membership. As Don’s health declined in 2014, they moved to Peachtree City to be closer to their children where she joined New Hope Baptist Church.
Nanette was a great encourager and teacher who along with Don created an environment of enduring stability and support for her children and grandchildren. Her lessons were not in her words but in her actions and her caring way of expressing those actions. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and doting grandmother. Her passion for sewing, crafting, cooking and reading were passed on to her grandchildren in summer camps. Her grandchildren all carry their own special memories of the times they spent with their grandmother.
Nanette leaves behind sons, Bruce (Joan), Scott (Kathy), Mark (Kim) and Todd (Sherry); grandchildren, Brian, Sarah, Patrick, Jenna (Bryan), James “Jake”(Hailey), Noah, Mary(Paco), Kelly(Clarke), Jack and Ben; and great-grandchildren, Andrea, Norah, Daniela, Averie, Elsie, Lochlan, Willa, Christina and Liam. Don passed way in 2017. She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Collier.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 3pm at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main St, Woodstock, GA 30188 along with a time for visitation hosted by the family beginning at 2pm. Nanette will be laid to rest at Georgia National Cemetery on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at 11:00am in a private ceremony. Her burial will also be livestreamed.
