She was born in Shep Texas on February 4, 1932 to Samuel and Bessie Hill McLure.
Betty was a good Christian woman, having been a long standing member of Caps United Methodist Church in Abilene. At the age of 23 she married Bobby Gene Johnson on February 5, 1955, and together they started a life filled with fun and love. She was a great wife and mother but an even better grandmother. Her grandson Samuel was the light of her life. She had a room filled with nothing but his pictures, where you could relive him growing up. For many years her and her husband Bobby owned and operated an Exxon Service Center. After they retired from Exxon she went to work for Abilene ISD as a cafeteria worker. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, quilting, working in her yard, and being a homemaker. Almost all her friends and family had something she made especially for them. Her fun loving personality will be remembered for years to come and bring smiles back to those that loved her.
Betty is survived by her daughter Tonya Anderson and husband Marshall of Abilene, by a grandson Samuel Morgan and wife Erin of Aubrey, and by special friends Barbara Druesedow of Abilene and Theresa Rouse of Joliet Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Bobby Johnson, by a daughter Connie Jean Johnson, by her sister Billie Harris, and a niece Karen Harris Byrd.
A funeral service for Betty will be held on Saturday, May 1st at 11am at Caps United Methodist Church of Abilene with the burial to follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 until the time of the service.
