Sandra Jean Kendall Stewart, 78 years of age, passed away April 28, 2021 in Fort Smith. Born in 1942, Sandy grew up in Memphis, TN in the heyday of Elvis Presley and sock hops. She graduated from Whitehaven High School and attended Memphis State where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She met her husband, Dr. Jerry Stewart, while working at the John Gaston hospital as a social worker. She married him six months later and were together for 51 years. Sandy spent her life serving her family and raising her three children. She and Jerry loved following the Razorbacks and witnessed many of the hog’s most iconic moments. They also spent many weeks in Jackson Hole, WY where they made many friends, rode horses and photographed their way through the Tetons. Sandy’s happy place was on a horse in the middle of a mountain. Her personality was marked by her faith, positivity and laughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jerry Stewart.
She is survived by her twin brother, Gary Kendall (Gainesville, GA); sister-in-law, Dottie Youngblood (Friendswood, TX); three children: Laura Stewart Hood (Bret), Daniel Stewart, Todd Stewart (Casey) all in the River Valley. She had five grandchildren; Zachary Hood (Dallas, TX), Kendall Hood (Manhattan, NY), Grant Hood (Dallas, TX), Jackson Stewart (at Texas A&M), and Ben Stewart (Greenwood, AR).
Service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Edwards Funeral Home chapel with a burial on Tuesday at the National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Dr. and Mrs. Jerry Stewart Prescription Fund at the Good Samaritan Clinic, 615 North B Street.
