On Wednesday night, April 28, 2021, at the age of 88, Joseph Earl Marler passed away at his home in Rex, Georgia, surrounded by loved ones. After fighting his battle with cancer for 8 months he entered Heaven’s gates and received his Heavenly body.
Mr. Marler was born in Anniston, Alabama, on July 7, 1932 to Joseph Earl Marler, Sr., and Essie Chastain Marler. Mr. Marler is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joyce Wood Marler; daughter, Vicky (Larry) Bryant of Lithonia, Georgia; son, Dyke Marler (Paula) of Dunedin, Florida; 3 grandsons, Erik Bryant (Courtney) of Lynchburg, Virginia, Joseph Bryant (Michael Blount) of Wesley Chapel, Florida and Chris Marler of Atlanta, Georgia and 5 great-grandchildren, Valencia, Erik, Jr., Jacovy, Dylan, and Aegon. Mr. Marler is also survived by brothers, Oscar Lawrence (Patsy) Marler and Major Wayne Marler of Anniston, Alabama.
Mr. Marler was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul Marler and sisters, Shirley Lewis, Joyce Beard, Mary Jo Canter, and Sarah Chandler.
Mr. Marler moved from Anniston, Alabama to Atlanta, Georgia and worked for S&H (Sperry & Hutchinson) Green Stamps. His hobbies included sports. He coached his son Dyke’s baseball teams for many seasons winning trophies and championships. He went from coaching to umpiring Little League and adult ball games for 30 years. Mr. Marler had a talent for seeing the potential in players and encouraged them to succeed. He was also an armchair quarterback for the University of Alabama (Roll Tide) cheering them on his whole life.
The family would like to thank special family friends, Bob Morris and Bill and Helen Rhoades for their extensive help during Mr. Marler’s illness.
Special acknowledgement to Homestead Hospice Care (Chaplain Francis, Darryl, Steve, and Midge) and the Sacred Journey Hospice Team (Melissa, Stephanie, Candace, Barbara, and Billy) for their treatment and support.
A memorial service is not currently planned; however the family would appreciate your continued prayers during this time.
