Shane Eric Martin, 44, of Dartmouth passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He met the love of his life, Angela (Savaria) Martin, at the age of 19 and they shared 18 beautiful years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, the son of Wayne and Dee (Delia) (Raposo) Martin of Freetown. He graduated from New Bedford High School in 1994 and went on to graduate from U-Mass Amherst with a Bachelor’s degree. He was an active member of the Christian Fellowship Center in New Bedford for more than 20 years.
In addition to being raised in Acushnet, Mr. Martin was a 6th grade math teacher at Ford Middle School in Acushnet for 22 years. He was known for his amazing smile that always lit up a room. His joy blessed others. He lived by what he said, “I was born to serve people with a smile & lift people up. I always do my best to fulfill that purpose.” He was a loving, caring, generous, joyful, and faithful man. He adored his family and enjoyed spending quality time, hiking, fishing, vacationing, playing and enjoying game and movie nights among many other things. Besides being a Celtics and Patriots fan, Shane loved to coach his son, Christian, in baseball, basketball, and soccer. He also loved hearing his daughter, Hallie, sing and play her guitar.
Shane was devoted to serving Jesus and his Christian faith which helped him face his battle with cancer.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his two children Hallie Grace and Christian Jaydon; a sister, Tanji Joy Cifuni and her husband Richard of Winthrop and their children: Ayden, Austin, Andrew, Alex, Ryan, Colin, Ace, and CJ; his parents-in-law Joyce Taylor of New Bedford, Raymond and Cindy Savaria of Middleboro, and James Taylor of New Bedford; maternal grandmother, Inezia Raposo of New Bedford, great-aunt Maria DaLuz Bita of Fairhaven; aunts and uncles, John and Lisa Raposo of New Bedford, Noel and Lisa Martin of Dartmouth, Nobby Martin of Lakeville, Cynthia Joy Martin of New Bedford, and Michael and Debra Martin of SC; sister-in-law, Amy Reid and her husband Joe of Webster, FL and son Dustin, brother-in-law, Andrew Savaria and his wife Susan and their children, Olivia and Asher, brother-in-law, Adam Taylor and his companion Jessica Carvalho of Acushnet and their children, Jessa, Jenna, Sophia, Adam, and Noah, sister-in-law, Aleesha Freire and her husband Danny of E. Freetown, and their children, Daniel, Emily, and Ezra, sister-in-law, Ashley Taylor and her companion Scott Ferreira of Taunton, sister-in-law Amber Taylor of New Bedford, brother-in-law, Austin Taylor and his companion Carissa Martins of New Bedford, and brother-in-law, Aaron Taylor of New Bedford; sister-in-law Kelly Jenkins of Carver and her companion Chris and their children Riley and Brandon; Godfather, Tony Soares, his wife Maria, and their daughter Tammy and her husband Danny Tisdelle; and many loving cousins.
He is also survived by his devoted dog, Chase. Shane was the father of his deceased son, Jaydon Eric Martin, Christian’s twin brother, and the grandson of the late Abie and Norbert Martin.
The family would like to thank the Acushnet Public Schools Community and the Friends Academy Community for their continued support. There have been many people who have showed love, support, and generosity to the Martin family during this very difficult time and the family is utterly grateful to family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, students, and the community. A huge thank you to all those who were committed to lifting Shane and family up in prayer regularly. The family would also like to thank Friends of Jack Foundation.
His funeral will be Friday, May 7, 2021 at 9 a.m. from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. in the Christian Fellowship Center, 822 Church St., New Bedford.
