Ruth Ann Postlewait

In the early morning of April 30, 2021, Ruthie passed away peacefully in the loving presence of her husband and two sons.

Ruth Ann Postlewait was born to Ralph and Helen Elliott on November 23, 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska. As a child she enjoyed music, played the accordion, became a fabulous seamstress, and helped her mom with preschool classes. She attended North High School, where she met her future husband, Doug. She studied home economics for four years at the University of Nebraska, Omaha, and was just one class short of her degree when her heart pulled her to South Texas.

Ruth and Doug were married November 6, 1958 in Corpus Christi, Texas, where Doug received his commission in the Navy. Ruth had the honor of pinning his Naval Aviator Wings, and they moved to San Diego for Doug’s first deployment. Their first son was born in Oakland, California in 1960, and their second son was born in Pensacola, Florida in 1963. They settled in Seattle in 1964.

Ruth always created a beautiful home, where she warmly welcomed family and friends of all ages. She was a leader in the PTA, enjoyed doll collecting and being part of the quilting community. She sewed teddy bears, costumes, clothes, nurtured gorgeous gardens, and hosted wonderful, memorable birthday parties. She loved camping, boating, and being with her family.

She took delight in attending all of her grandchildren’s school, music, and sporting events. She was even “Room Grandma” for her daughter-in-law’s classroom for many years.

Emerald Heights has been Ruth’s latest home. She was a member of the Ukulele Chorus, enjoyed making new friends, and appreciated the many opportunities and warm community for the past seven years.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 63 years, Doug; her sons, Dana (Diana) and Scott (Katie); four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and her brother Max (Judy). She was preceded in death by her brother, Don.

Because of Covid, her service will be private.
