Kathleen Lorraine Hadenfeld entered heaven on April 30, 2021 at the age of 96. Kathleen was born on May 28, 1924 near Denison, Iowa to Leslie ‘Bugs’ and Beulah Shives. Kathleen attended country schools until the family moved into town when Kathleen was 14. Kathleen attended Denison High School where she met the love of her life Earl Henry Hadenfeld. Kathleen and Earl were married in 1942. In 1943 their daughter, Beverly Ann, was born while Earl was serving in the south Pacific during World War II. After the war Earl and Kathleen self-built their first home in Denison. During a family vacation Kathleen and Earl fell in love with Colorado and moved to Fort Collins in 1950. The Hadenfeld Painting and Decorating business was soon opened on Pine Street in Old Town where Kathleen worked as bookkeeper, sales lady, and receptionist. In 1957, the Hadenfeld’s moved to a home on Laurel Street where they rented the upstairs to college students and where daughter, Earleen, and son, Wayne, were born. In 1963, Kathleen and Earl joined the then brand-new mission church, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, where Kathleen dedicated much of her life in service to others.
Kathleen was a loving and dedicated wife and mother. Her husband and children were her life and she spent endless hours volunteering as School Room Mother, assisting with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H, music lessons, and sporting events. When her children were grown, she joined the Volunteers of America assisting with the Senior Meal Program and volunteered at Good Samaritan Village in Fort Collins Auxiliary both of which Kathleen was frequently recognized for her service.
Kathleen will be deeply missed by the family she leaves behind - her children, Wayne (Nancy) Hadenfeld, and Earleen (Mike) Ligotke, her sisters-in-law and their families, Donna Palmer and Lorraine (Bill) Haldeman, and beloved nieces and nephews.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter, Beverly Arment, son-in-law, Bob Arment and brother-in-law, Rendell “Rink” Palmer.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the Allnutt Drake Chapel, Fort Collins, CO. followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 am. The family would like to thank the staff at Good Samaritan, Columbine West, and Pathways Hospice for their compassionate care.
