Jack passed away on April 23, 2021, eight days after his 93rd birthday. Jack moved to San Francisco with his parents at the age of 18 and began college at University of San Francisco. He participated in a joint BS/Law Degree program, graduating in 1955. His law school career was suspended by a tour of duty as an Artillery Officer in the Korean War.
Jack married the former Mary Elizabeth Selleck in 1951, thereafter having two children, Christine born in 1952 and Anthony born in 1953. Jack remained married to Mary Elizabeth until her death in 2017. They had a wonderful life together, traveling to Europe, Asia and Africa and enjoying the company of family and lifelong friends.
After graduation from USF Law School in 1955, he was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1956. Jack began his legal career with the firm of Fouke and Wertsch, which soon became the partnership of Fouke Wertsch & Hayes. Jack practiced law until his retirement in January 2021,
Jack is survived by his daughter Christine Hayes Sickler, his son Anthony Hayes, daughter-in-law Candy Hayes,
granddaughter Danielle Hayes, former daughter-in- law Jem Quesinberry, her husband Steven Quesinberry and his beloved cocker spaniel, Megan.
A memorial service will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church (Corner of Green and Steiner Streets, San Francisco) on Saturday May 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
