Lucille M. Cook was born Jan. 9, 1930 in Fowler, MI, the beloved daughter of Herman and Revella (Miller) Simon and was raised on the family farm, loving animals and children all of her life. Lucille attended Holy Trinity Catholic School for 10 years and graduated from Fowler High School in 1948 as valedictorian. After graduation she worked as a secretary at Oldsmobile in Lansing, and later became a stay-at-home mom. She was well-known for making the best cookies and friends often stopped by just for her delicious baked goods. She volunteered at Lansing Catholic High School, St. Lawrence hospital, and was a charter member of St. Gerard Church. She had a unique understanding of the challenges of life and of grief and loss, so she was always there to support friends and her family through difficult times.
On September 2, 1950 she married the love of her life, Jerome J. Cook at Holy Trinity Church in Fowler, MI who preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 1997. Together they raised six children and enjoyed time with their ten grand children…babies were the joy of her life. Lucille & Jerome also enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world, and in her later years she took her family on numerous exciting excursions. Also preceding her in death was her very dear son, John Albert on Jan. 4, 1981, and grandson, Curtis John on Aug. 1, 1998.
She was greatly loved and will be missed by her children: Jerome (Barb) Cook of Lansing, Mary Lynn (Roger) Brower of Laingsburg, LuAnn (Todd) Traynor of Albuquerque, NM, Brian Cook of Northville, MI, Lori (Ron) Bosch of Williamston, MI; and ten grandchildren, Carolyn (Jose) Baez, Chris Cook, Katie (Mark) Hagen, Ruthie (Mike) Thill, Brian (Jenny) Cook, Mary (Kevin) Stuible, Brendan (Guanzi) Kelly, Ryan (Gecilia) Kelly, and Stephanie Bock; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Eva and Olivia Hagen, Noreen Cook, Molly (and mom Emily), Nathan and Clark Kelly, Jackson, Max and Charlie Cook, Enzo and Alexander Thill, and Claire and Lucy Stuible, and many Brower and Bosch step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; sisters Kathleen (Bill) Thompson of Grand Blanc, Janie Ulrich and Mary (Curt) George of Fowler, MI, many nieces and nephews, life-long friends, and a few adoring grand-pups & grand-cats.
Lucille will be reunited not only with her loving husband, son, and grandson, but also her parents, brothers John Simon and Charles Simon, sisters Sister Marie Ann Simon and Jean Hilbur, sisters-in-law Betty Simon, Joanie Simon, and brother-in-laws, Eugene Cook, Al Hilbur and Paul Ulrich.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for close family & friends at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow Highway. There will be no visitation and the Rite of Committal will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Right to Life of Greater Lansing, 233 North Walnut, Lansing, MI 48933, in memory of Lucille Cook.
