Grace Heslin Caldarera Hagen passed away peacefully on May 3, 2021 at the age of 86. She was born on December 13, 1934 to Grace Palmisano Heslin and Joseph Alexander Heslin, and was the second of four siblings, all of whom are deceased.
She is the loving mother of four sons, Anthony Caldarera III, Stephen Caldarera, Christopher Hagen, Robert Hagen, and one daughter, the late Julia Elizabeth Caldarera. She is the proud grandmother of Lauren Carerre, Greyson Caldarera, Chet Caldarera, Drew Robert Hagen, and Emma Grace Hagen. She is “Granny” to 5 great-grandchildren, Courtade, Charlotte, and Camille Carrere, and Cameron and Lia Caldarera. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Grace grew up in New Orleans where she attended Catholic schools and later in life, moved to Metairie and then Kenner. After becoming widowed at age 24, she entered the Human Resources field and had a career expanding 42 years. She was the owner and founder of Western Temporary Services, now known as Westaff. After retiring, she traveled extensively worldwide for 17 years and donated most of her time to her family and friends, as well as volunteering for a number of charities and prayer groups. A “cradle Catholic”, she was a great believer, instilled in her by her devoted mother and she an active member of Divine Mercy Church for many years. She loved creating a home, always entertaining and cooking for her many friends and family. She was an avid reader and at age 80 began oil painting. Her interests were many, her generosity was admirable, and her sense of humor was legendary.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held from 11AM-1PM with a memorial Mass to begin at 1PM.
