In loving memory of Julia Eirin. Born at the turn of the century in the small town of Zulueta, Cuba in the year 1915. One of twelve siblings, she is survived by her sister Elia who still resides in Cuba. Widowed at the age of 25, after the death of her husband she moved to the city and later to the United States in search of a better future for her daughter.
Abuela, you were the embodiment of strength and determination, a woman of action rather than many words. You were the admired matriarch of our family and friends. From your corner of the kitchen you guided our lives; your wisdom imparted on us the importance of family, taught us to be fearless, that the greatest achievements are the result of hard work, and that life is a great adventure.
Abuela, I will always keep in my heart the warmth of your embrace, the wisdom of your words, the beauty of your garden, and the wonderful taste of the meals you prepared with such love. Life will never be the same now that I will no longer be able to share my daily events with you, but you will always be in my thoughts and again in my dreams when I close my eyes.
Mami: I never imagined this moment of extreme sadness upon your departure to reunite with my father and the rest of our family. I have
been truly fortunate to a mother as marvelous as you to guide me
down the right path. These seventy-nine years I have lived at your side and I will guard in my heart the greatest treasure that God could give me (you), the greatest mother in the world. May God bless you always and keep you, until we meet again. I love you and will never forget you!
Descansa ahora Tía, te queremos y nunca te olvidaremos.
Tía, although I am only twelve years old, I will never forget the happy moments that we spent together as a family. You were a light in all of our lives and truly special. Julia may no longer be here with us physically, but will remain in our hearts. The memories we had with her will ever be forgotten. We will see her again when it is our time.
She lived a long, full life and we cannot thank God enough for that.
Her passing was sudden and unexpected, we were all unprepared for the horrible impact this would have on our family. Rest now Tia, we love you and will never forget you.
