New Gloucester- Robert (Bob) Dipple, 85, was born in Melvindale, Michigan, the 11th of 12 children born to Andrew and Mary Dipple. His fondest memories of his youth revolved around gatherings with family and time spent on Harsens Island. Bob met his future wife, Shirley Moore at Melvidale High School where they graduated in 1954. After graduation Bob served as a radio operator for the US Army. He was stationed in Austria and Germany and often shared stories about his adventures there. Bob returned home after discharge, and he and Shirley were married on September 14, 1957. Bob began his career at the Michigan Bell Telephone Company as a draftsman and retired 34 years later as a drafting supervisor.
Retirement allowed Bob time to pursue many activities. Fishing always stayed at the top of his list. Bob and Shirley spent many a summer fishing all around Harsens Island and hauling in a lot of perch. Bob enjoyed bowling. He and Shirley were on a league with his sister and brother-in-law for many years. Bob took up woodcarving. His specialties were perch, blue gill, and crappie; the same fish he liked to catch. Bob enjoyed music and frequently created personalized playlists for friends and family. He also loved taking videos or pictures and editing them with music. His favorite subjects were his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by Shirley, his wife of 63 years, daughter Annette (John) Tynes, son, Michael, and grandchildren Emily (Brandon) Leighton, Liz, Erica, and Jared. He is also survived by his brother Larry and many nieces and nephews.
