He was born on December 14, 1928 to the late Rowan Broome and Lela Mell Thomas Broome of Florence. Growing up, his family raised and trained horses. Francis himself was a member of the Heart of Dixie Tennessee Walker Association. Although he would go on to earn multitudes of awards, trophies, and medals, at a young age, he discovered airplanes and fell absolutely in love. Joining the Air Force, he earned his certification as an air craft engineer. During World War II and the Korean War, he heroically assisted in search and rescue missions. After contributing 20 years of dignified service and reaching the rank of Master Sergeant, he retired. His other love of baseball led him to work at Trustmark Park until age 91. Many years were spent cheering on the Mississippi Braves, as well as the Atlanta Braves whom he also was a fan. He was a caring spirit and hosted many ball players in his home. Francis always kept active and busy, taking on three jobs at a time even in his late years. He was an active member of Marvin United Methodist Church. His other accomplishments include being a lifetime Shriner of the Freemasons and a retired police deputy.
Survivors include his son, Harrell Broome, Jr; grandchildren Dylan (Kristy) Broome, Dana Broome, Dustin Broome, Derrick Broome, Shannon, and Anna; and multiple beloved great-grandchildren, siblings, and extended family members.
His charitable soul will be deeply missed.
