Rich was born in Davenport, Iowa in 1950 to parents Raymond Lowell and Betty Lou Goines. He was a USAF veteran honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1974 and retired from Caterpillar in 2009 after 33 years.
Rich was happily married to his best friend, Linda Eileen (Olson) for 41 years. He was a loving son and husband, supportive brother and uncle, dedicated father and, according to his grandchildren, the best grandfather ever.
Rich enjoyed playing baseball, horseback riding, fishing and hunting in his younger years. As an adult Rich and his family camped, fished and boated weekends and summers and he spent many fall vacations fishing with his buddies in Canada. After retirement, Rich and Linda moved to Lake Wildwood where they thoroughly enjoyed their laid back lake life. They wintered in Florida and traveled the United States photographing birds, wildlife and sunsets but Rich’s greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Lowell and Betty Lou Goines; parents-in-law, Harold and Dorothy Olson, brother-in-law, Dennis Reeves and grand-daughter, Kaylie Lynn.
Survivors include his wife (Linda), Chillicothe IL, sons Richard Goines Jr “Buddy”, Matt Etzel, Kevin (Jennifer) Etzel and daughter-in-law, Keri "Pody" Goines, all of Chillicothe IL; daughters Julie Johnson, Rock Island IL and Karie Goines, Moline IL; siblings Garland (Sarah) Hughes, Sikeston MO, John (Karen) Hughes, Seymour IA, Sharon (Lucille Librizzi) Reeves, Ft. Lauderdale FL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ken (Marcia) Olson, Bettendorf IA and Larry (Nan) Olson, Davenport IA and sister-in-law Janice Olson, Chillicothe. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren Austyn Marks, Mason, Bryn, Griffin and Bryson Goines; great-grandchildren Tessa, Landon and Holland and several very special nieces and nephews.
Rich battled ALS with courage, determination and dignity. His family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Rich’s OSF hospice caregivers Camilla and Chaplain Scott, for their compassionate and loving care.
Per Richard’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Cremation and private burial of ashes with full military rites will be accorded. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.rungemortuary.com.
