Ernie was born November 6,1929, the 3rd child of Wilbert W. Heimlich and Gertrude M. Lehner. He and his four siblings: Richard E. Heimlich, Clara McClenathan, Wilbert W. Heimlich Jr. and Marvin C. Heimlich grew up on a farm in Ohio.
In his youth, Ernie was president of student council, treasure of the FFA, and achieved the FFA award for State Farmer in Ohio. He served on the Jr Fair Board, played in the band and played basketball. After High School, he achieved a position as supervisor at Central Soya feed mill due to his ability to work with others and his high work ethics.
When drafted Ernie proudly served in the U.S. Army achieving rank of CPL, Combat 5th Engineer, In the Korea conflict. He received an Army of Occupation Germany award.
Ernie met Marianne Avery in Seattle, Washington while in the service. They married in Seattle, Washington in 1954. They then moved to his hometown Cardington, Ohio. He attended college in Angola, Indiana graduating from Tri State University with a B.S. in Accounting. After returning to his hometown after college him and his wife served as Chairman and Co Chairman of the PTA. He accepted a position and moved to Richmond, Indiana where he became president of the Richmond Accounting Association. They raised their five children in Indiana where he worked as a comptroller and joined Toastmasters. In 1981 he moved to Texas for career opportunities. While in Texas he continued his Education and stayed active in Toastmasters. He remained till current day an active member in Roadrunners, a social organization. Ernie enjoyed Card Games, Golf, bowling and most important spending time with his family and sharing his love for M&M’s.
Ernest Leroy Heimlich is preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard E. & nephew Richard M. (son of Richard), his wife of 30+ years Marianne, and son-in-law’s James E. Gray, William W.(Bill) Bland, Charles R. Lahrman and Robert Board. Also, grandchild Hannah Board.
Ernest Leroy Heimlich is survived by his five children: Edmund B. Heimlich, Ginny P. Lahrman, Darcia L. Bland, Anne M. Board and Catherine M. Craig (Dwane Craig) (Troy Warren) seven grandchildren: Jeremy Gray (Annie Gray), Angelica Board, Jon Avery Heimlich (who took on both grandparents last names; son of Bill Bland), Katrina Bland (Mark Skelton), TJ H. Warren (Tabetha), Craig Board (Michaela) and Charles Zackery Lahrman. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Jeremy's daughters Ashyton & Alyce, Katrina’s son's Jackson and Jonah, TJ’s Daughters, Gracie and Zoey, Craig’s son & daughter, Alexander & Sabrina.
