Miguel Alferez, Jr., (Mike) 78, a proud Marine, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 27, 2021. A lifelong resident of El Paso and a product of El Segundo Barrio, he is preceded in death by his parents Miguel Sr., Dolores and two sisters. Survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Ramona, three children Michael (Lulu), Marco, Angelica Ortiz (Luis), 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 7 brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. He graduated from El Paso Tech in 1963. He enlisted in the US Marine Corp in 1964, did an 18-month tour of duty in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1968. He loved sports and was a loyal Cowboy fan. Loved to talk about anything and everything, especially give advice. Mike worked for Project Bravo, El Paso County Juvenile Detention, Life Management, City of El Paso Parks & Recreation Department’s Youth Outreach Program and the West Texas Council. He was one of the original founders of SEPA, creator of the Chamizal Coalition and a former president of El Paso Police Activity League (PAL). Mike actively coordinated various outreach programs that benefited the at-risk youths of El Paso. Devoted to people: he was a very loving, caring and compassionate human being with a tremendous brain and plethora of knowledge. Always making sure his wife and children were taken care of. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his strength, determination and most importantly, his love of family. We extend our sincere gratitude and blessings to all his devoted friends. “The legacy will never fade, the spirit will always be with us, and love will live in our hearts''.
