Tuesday, June 1st, 2021 while surrounded by family. She is
survived by two daughters Brenda Gail Gould and Nicki Dianne
Walker, 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 5
great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Carrie
Carr, husband, Loney Bishop, daughters, Janice Marie
Calascione and Sandra Kaye Durio, grandson, Ivan Noel Gould,
great grandson, Michael Dewayne Bishop, and 14 siblings
including her beloved identical twin sister, Leora Faye Holloway.
Flossie was born in Tribbey, Oklahoma on August 22, 1927.
She and her twin were the youngest of 15 children. In 1961, she
and her husband moved to Metairie.
Flossie was a woman who will eternally be remembered for her
quirky and unique sense of humor. Always one to command
people’s attention with her spirited personality, she loved to play
this great game of life. A welcoming soul who opened her home
to anyone at any time. Without warning, a single person, or a
family of many, could show up at her door unannounced. Within
minutes the table would be full of food, snacks, and everyone’s
favorite beverages.
She was a friend to all, including those she had never met. She
often spoke of celebrities on a first name basis as if they were
her best friends, and insisted you know the latest gossip. She
was the family news hub, if you needed to know anything about
anyone - family or celebrity, she was the one to turn to.
With a lifetime that spanned almost a century, she was born the
year Lindbergh made the first nonstop transatlantic solo flight.
She saw the first woman elected to the US Senate, witnessed
the Great Depression, World War II, and the establishment of
the United Nations, the CIA, and NATO. Puerto Rico became
part of the US Commonwealth, and our last two states, Alaska
and Hawaii, became part of our great nation during her time on
this earth. And of course most recently, she survived the
pandemic.
She was a historian at heart, with an ability to remember the
dates of both historic and mundane events. She started using
her favorite brand of butter on October 8, 1994, as she was
sure to inform anyone the moment they reached for the butter.
As a lover of casinos, we are sure she has joined her husband
and two daughters in that big casino in the sky and is having the
time of her afterlife.
Her stories, personality, and performances will be missed by all
who knew her. A true matriarch of a family who will carry her in
their hearts forever.
