Beloved mother, Carol Elma Schelling, (84), former Texas resident and most recently Gladstone, MO; her long battle with Alzheimer’s ended on June 4, 2021; as she peacefully drew her last breath and entered heaven.
Memorial services are 10:00 AM Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 S Lincoln Ave, Jerome, ID 83338.
Carol was the third child born to the late Marinus and Gertrude Van Den Berg. She was born May 22, 1937 in Artesia California. She was married to the late Pleun “Duke” Schelling for (59 years) and together they had eight children. In her early years, living in California, her focus was on raising her 6 young children and taking care of the household while her husband drove a truck. Later Carol and Duke moved to Jerome, ID where they became dairy farmers and added to their family two more children. It would be 13 years later that they would move to Texas and then in 2013 moved to Missouri.
Carol wore many different hats in her life: daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, Nana, chauffeur, bookkeeper, milk hand, Sunday school teacher, secretary, AWANA leader, school teacher, truck driver, volleyball coach, basketball coach, cheerleading coach and counselor. Under each of these hats she rarely had a negative word. Her philosophy was, “complaining wastes time and you will have to do it anyway, so just get it done”. If you spent any time around her you would walk away challenged to be a better human being not because of what she said, but because of how she lived. She loved and served God and it showed. She touched many lives.
She learned how to sew at a young age and later took up quilting. She enjoyed watching sports, reading, and working outside. What she loved most was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Carol is preceded in death by: her husband Duke Schelling, two children Nancy Schelling, Curtis Schelling, and one grandchild Michael Vidal. She is survived by: her children Judith Baier (Missouri), Gregory Schelling (Texas), Karen Bird (Nevada), Debra Vidal (Texas), Douglas Schelling (Nevada), and Josena Marshall (Florida), 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
