Born in New York Hospital on January 14, 1957, he was the son of George (Gehard) Rowen and Betty Lou (Lacobs) Rowen. He was a graduate of Forest Hills High School, where he was a three-year varsity letterman and captain of the track and field team. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Baruch College, which he attended alongside his beloved brother Barry.
Doug made his living through his gregarious personality as a salesman, spending the majority of his 21-year long career supplying businesses throughout the city and tristate area with baby goods and accessories.
His career fit perfectly with his favorite job of all, raising his two sons George and Sam (not to mention his furry feline child Layla). When he was no longer able to work, he found immense joy in coaching and mentoring thousands of children and teens through the Bayside Raiders football organization, where he served for 21 years as assistant head coach, defensive coordinator, and vice president.
Doug enjoyed a love for all sports, but especially the Yankees, which he inherited from his parents, as well as a fondness for cuisine from all over the world, which he shared by cooking for his family.
Doug is survived by his younger brother Barry Rowen of Rego Park, NY; his two sons: George Rowen and wife Marie of Massapequa, NY, and Sam Rowen of Whitestone, NY; and his first grandchild due to be born in October 2021.
A Jewish funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM Eastern on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Schwartz Brothers-Jeffer Memorial Chapels at 114-03 Queens Blvd., Forest Hills, NY 11375.
