Idalia was born in Laredo, Texas on August 29, 1932 to Belen Hilda Hernandez Compean and Jose Compean. Idalia was the sixth child out of ten children that were raised in the heart of downtown Houston, Texas in an environment surrounded by the sound of music as her Dad was a renowned professional violinist and music professor. Her Dad played professionally for the Houston Symphony along with 4 of her 6 brothers. All of the 10 children were trained with a musical instrument and Idalia’s selected for her by her Dad was the violin. She began playing and performing at the tender age of 4. Her father wanted her to attend a conservatory of music as he felt that as she was so extremely gifted and that her talent should be pursued. Idalia had her own plans which did not include this. After her high school education in May of 1948 at the early age of 16 from St. Agnes Academy of Houston she then went on to attend Business School and after completion she went to work and helped support the family. Unfortunately, her Mother, along with her maternal Grandmother, Fernanda Hernandez were killed in an automobile accident in January 1955 leaving behind Idalia’s Father and siblings including Idalia ages 22 – 8 years old that were still living at home. Idalia helped her Dad until she was married on June 2, 1956 to the love of her life Louis George Krippner. Idalia was very close to all her siblings and had a special place in her heart for her younger siblings as she felt responsible to help them in their lives any way she could even after she was married.
After Idalia was married, they went on to have four children; Eric, Theresa, Karl, and Curt. Idalia was a dedicated Christian and was passionate about raising her children with Christian values with a Catholic foundation and good work ethics. Idalia imparted to all her children the value of a good sense of humor, the importance of making family time a top priority, and the joy of traveling and celebrating life!
She will be missed and forever in the hearts of all who knew her before and after Alzheimer’s took over her mind and body.
