Linda, along with her twin sister, was born on February 9, 1949 in Baltimore. She was the daughter of Raymond J. Sadler, a linotype operator for the Baltimore Sun, and Ida E. Sadler (nee Pawloski), a homemaker. She spent the first 27 years of life on the family farm on Bottom Rd. in Hydes, MD. She graduated summa cum laude from the last graduating class of St. Stephen High School, Bradshaw in 1967.
After attending business school in New York City, Linda worked for 17 years at H.G.Roebuck & Son, Printers and Lithographers in Baltimore. She began taking graphic design courses at MICA and in 1986 was hired by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Communications Programs as a graphic artist. She later became their foreign language managing editor. For over 20 years Linda collaborated with USAID and JHU to design and/or manage the design, translation, and production of publications and materials for health care providers worldwide. One of her favorite designs was a take-home project for the 1994 Cairo Conference. She retired from JHU in 2008.
Linda LOVED to sing. From harmonizing with her sisters as a child, to singing in dinner theatre, to being a cantor/chorister in several area churches, Linda raised her wide range soprano/tenor voice in song. She did a concert tour of the cathedrals of Spain with Baltimore Choral Arts. She sang with the Handel Choir of Baltimore (and designed many of their posters/programs). She performed with the Baltimore Masterworks Chorale, Bach in Baltimore, the Hopkins Choral Society and the Episcopal Cathedral of the Incarnation.
Linda was a devout Catholic. She loved reading her daily “Magnificat” prayers and was a superkind, caring person. A born prankster, her subtle humor produced many, many laughs. One always looked for “artistic tweaks” in correspondence from her.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved sister Sandra Balcer, her dear twin Janet Schap and her husband Bob, nephews Tony Balcer, Joe and Paul Schap and niece Lori Wagner. She is also survived by many loving great nieces and great nephews.
