Amos was born on November 27, 1949 in Coolidge, Arizona at home, fifth child of Richard and Emilia Macias. After moving and settling in Fresno he attended Central High School where he participated in track and field and baseball. After high school the Army came knocking on his door and he found himself in Vietnam. Amos bravely served our country as a sharpshooter and marksman. In recognition of his service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
New talents awaited Amos and he found himself working for Crystal Valley Decorating as a welder in creating commercial size Christmas decorations and lighted displays for holidays and special events.
On March 18, 1981, Amos became a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous and remained a sober member until his passing. He continued to share his experience, strength and hope with others and celebrated 40 years of sobriety this year.
Later in life he was to meet and marry the love of his love, Jolaine. They spent many happy years traveling. They particularly like going to Pismo Beach every summer where they enjoyed boogie boarding and deep sea fishing. They also enjoyed many camping trips at Huntington and Bass Lakes. They especially enjoyed boarding the Amtrak and traveled to San Francisco to see a Giants game or attend a theater performance at the Orpheum. They also enjoyed going to Kentucky visiting their children and spending happy times with them. His dream came true when he visited Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee for his 70th birthday in 2019. Amos and Jolaine took their dream vacation to Italy where they visited Florence, Venice, Rome and Assisi. The highlight of their trip was visiting St. Peter's Basilica and attending a papal audience with Pope Francis. Amos was a man of deep faith and this particular trip was incredibly meaningful to him. He would often refer to his Italy trip as a pilgrimage. Many of the highlights of his travels was his total enjoyment of delicious food. He could be found in a bakery satisfying his sweet tooth.
Amos also had a passion for restoring cars. His latest was his 1963 Ford Econoline Van which he fondly named the Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine.
Amos is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Emilia, and his two sisters Jane and Gloria.
Amos is survived by his loving wife, Jolaine; daughter Michelle and husband Jeff; grandchildren Jesse, Alyssa, Devan, Lili-Ana Miles; son Isaac and wife Lisa, and son Jacob; brother Louie and wife Maggie; brother Richard; brother Nick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Amos led a life of compassion and kindness for others.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home, 836 E. Nees Ave., Fresno, CA 93720 on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. -
