Margaret Young Burkmier entered into rest on June 16, 2021 at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Burkmier is survived by her daughters Karen Burkmier Weser and husband Alfred S. Weser of Springtown, Texas and Susan (Suzie) Burkmier Wagner and husband Floyd R. Wagner of Boyd, Texas, Seven grandchildren Floyd R. Wagner Jr. (Brandy), Brandi Burkmier Ellard (Jessie), Alfred Matthew Weser, Brynn Anne Burkmier, Stephanie Weser Rodriguez (Jeremy), Brooke Kael Burkmier, and Kari-Anne Wagner Starks (Jason), 8 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and a lot of very special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle Edwin (Ed) Burkmier of 53 ½ years, a son Wayne Edwin Burkmier, her parents Corbin Frank Young and Mattie Powell Weems Young, 2 sisters, Ester Weems Gildon and Orlean Weems Thomas.
Mrs. Burkmier was raised in Bradley, Arkansas where she graduated from high school and thereafter went to work for the Southern Bell Telephone Company in Shreveport, Louisiana and later transferred to Michigan Bell in Jackson, Michigan. She was on the Semi-Pro Basketball Team for Southern Bell Telephone and traveled with them all over the Southeast United States. She and her husband were founders of Edmar, Inc., a machine shop in Haltom City, Texas where they retired and moved to Boyd, TX. She worked several years at Village Flowers and Gifts in Boyd, TX with owner and good friend Cathy Cartmill and later for Decatur Florist with owner and good friend Wanda McCurdy. She retired from being a florist at the age of 80. She was President of Mid-Cities Newcomers Club 1977-1978, She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Boyd, Texas where she was a member of their Care Team and also was a Greeter for many years, she was a 58-year member of the Order of Eastern Stars, current membership is of the Gainesville Chapter #1123; and she was a descendant of the Clan McClendon of Kintail, Scotland.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 15th at First United Methodist Church Boyd (FUMC-Boyd) from 6 to 8 pm, 540 S. Allen Street, Boyd, TX 76023, and Celebration of Life on Wednesday June 16, at 1:00 at FUMC-Boyd with Burial following at 3:00 at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, TX 76035.
