Lela Mae Franco, age 74 of Albion went to her heavenly home on Sunday, June 13, 2021 at Henry Ford in Jackson. She was born May 16, 1947 in San Pedro, CA the daughter of Cruz Medina and Jenni (Herrera).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Genero in May of 2010, both her parents and a sister.
Lela was an amazing lady with so much love to give. Anyone who had an opportunity to meet her and have her in their lives were truly blessed. She will be greatly missed.
Lela was employed as a Para-professional with Albion Public Schools, mostly at Harrington for over 20 years and was a dedicated member of St. Joe Catholic Church and absolutely loved her church and her work. She also enjoyed watching Westerns, gardening, loved eating red candied apples and was an amazing cook. Her family recalls that she could make a great meal out of seemingly nothing; she called them her “concoctions”.
At the center of Lela’s life was her family and close friends, especially her grandchildren. She leaves to cherish her memory, children: Gabriel Hopkins and Janelle (Nathan) Mujahid all of Albion, Annie Pombier whom she loved like a daughter, grandchildren: Mercedes Hopkins, Analiese Snyder, Lazoya Gamble, Madison Snyder, Matthew Berg, Hafiz Mujahid, Alimah Mujahid, Zathan Lewis, Aziza Mujahid; great-granddaughter, Mia Libunao; brothers, Cruz P (Linnea) Medina of Houston, TX, Donald (Lisa) Medina of California; close friends, Dalia Tucker and Judy Tidwell-Hall and many other extended family and friends.
Lela’s family will celebrate her life on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at St. John Catholic Church, 1020 Irwin Ave., Albion beginning with visitation at 10AM until the time of Mass at 11AM with Father Joe Gray officiating. She will be laid to rest in Albion Memory Gardens.
